Nepal

Nepal's landscape ranges from the subtropical Tarai plains to the desolate mountain peaks of the High Himalaya. The Nepalese Himalaya contain 8 of the world’s highest peaks and draws extreme climbing enthusiasts from all over the world.

The people of Nepal comprise over 100 different ethnic groups, speaking around 93 languages and dialects. Most of Nepal is Hindu although there are significant Buddhist and Islamic communities.

In addition to offing spectacular landscapes Nepal is home to a huge range of wildlife including protected endangered species like the Asian One Horned Rhinoceros and the elusive Bengal Tiger.

Nepal has gone to great lengths to look after its unique cultural and biodiversity creating 9 huge national parks in addition to conservation areas and reserves. The national parks alone cover 18% of the total land area of the country.

While we climb, we hope that you will help us to raise £8,463.00, for SOS Children's Villages to go towards projects supporting the children of the Barun Makalu area.

The Makalu Barun National Park is just one of these parks and we’ll be offering you a glimpse in our blog and gallery of Nepal’s breathtaking landscape as we move towards Base Camp, and later, the summit of Makalu.
