Equipment
The right equipment is crucial for any expedition, not least for an objective as challenging as Makalu South East Ridge. Sourcing the quantity of food, clothing, and communication equipment has been a major part of the expedition planning cycle.
Down Clothing
The challenges of expedition life place severe demands on the body and appropriate sleeping bags and clothing are essential to stave off the cold. The team will use a range of down sleeping bags, down suits, mitts and boots to protect themselves from the extreme conditions.
We'd like to thank Mountain Equipment for supplying us with down jackets and the Staff at DCSA Bicester for High altitude clothing and equipment. Big Stone have kindly supplied us with fixed rope.
Tents
The expedition will use a range of tents during the course of the expedition including Terra Nova Cosmos for the Trek-in phase, Advance Base Camp and Camp 1. Mountain Hardwear Trango 2 for Camps 2 and 3 andTerra Nova Gemini for the summit bids .
Boots
Team members will be using a mixture of Millet (Everest) and La Sportiva (Olympus Mons) boots. Designed specifically for use at extreme high altitude these boots consist of an inner boot and outer boot with an integral gaiter.
Energy Drinks
During the approach trek and on the mountain adequate hydration is essential. The expedition is extremely grateful for the support of Mountain Fuel. As part of the expedition rations the following have been included to ensure that the team are at optimum performance throughout: Morning Fuel, Extreme Energy Fuel, Ultimate Recovery and Night Fuel.
We'd like to thank Complan for Drinks and Mountain Fuel for Extreme Energy Drinks.
We'd also like to thank Cadbury for providing us with the classic, pleasurable energy boost, chocolate.
Our high altitude freeze dried rations are generously supplied by Mountain House.
Comms Equipment
We will be keeping in touch with base camp and with the rest of the world using a variety of cutting edge computer, broadcast and communication equipment.
VISLINK have supplied us with portable broadcast equipment NSSL have supplied us with secure satellite communication tools and Dell have supplied us with laptops.
Expedition Freight
The expedition equipment was manifested and packed in 60ltr barrels for freighting to Nepal. SOS Freight Agency has provided the necessary support.
We'd also like to thank Fibrestar for supplying plastic drums.
